8月7日，在海南岛东南海域发现的陵水36-1气田新增探明储量顺利通过国家有关部门评审备案，天然气探明地质储量超1000亿立方米，为全球首个超深水超浅层大型气田，实现海洋油气勘探理论领域的创新，填补全球技术空白。至此，南海北部莺歌海、琼东南、珠江口三个盆地累计探明天然气地质储量超过1万亿立方米，“南海万亿大气区”建设从蓝图走向现实，对保障国家能源安全、优化我国能源供给结构具有重大意义。
南海位于欧亚大陆、太平洋和印度洋三大板块的交界处，蕴藏着丰富的油气资源，是中国海洋石油工业的发祥地。1964年3月，中国第一代海洋石油人在南海莺歌海海域用“两个浮筒”打井的创举开启了中国“向海探油60年”的壮阔征程。
陵水36-1的勘探实践，揭示了将超深水超浅层气资源从影响钻完井作业安全的“灾害气”变成具备开发价值的清洁能源的可能性，对我国乃至全球类似海域条件的资源勘探开发具有重要指导意义。
陵水36-1气田勘探取得成功，进一步完善了我国自主建立的中国特色深水复杂油气资源勘探开发技术体系，充分验证了其先进性和可靠性，气田储量的落实也补上了“南海万亿大气区”建设版图的最后一块拼图。
